According to Girls Who Code, in 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today, that number is only 24%. The computer industry is projected to grow by over 22% within the next decade. The biggest drop off of girls in computer science is between the ages of 13 and 17. Girls Who Code and Phorge Makerspace are looking to change those numbers by sparking interest and giving the training and resources to young women in the Sheridan community through this club.
