Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley made an appearance on Public Pulse to talk on seat belt use in the City.

The Sheridan Police Department is participating in the annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign. This campaign is a nationwide effort by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and law enforcement, and aims to increase seat belt usage through education and enforcement.

During this period, law enforcement will be stepping up enforcement of seat belt laws, resulting in more tickets for drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts.

As visitors begin to come into Sheridan over the Memorial Day weekend, Ringley said the population and traffic will increase until the end of hunting season.

Ringley advised the public that to increase seat belt usage among all vehicle occupants, law enforcement will be more likely to issue tickets for seat belt violations during the campaign, but the citations are not the goal of the campaign.

Officers will be out to help educate and inform motorists of the dangers of not wearing a seat belt. To allow officers time to focus on seat belt enforcement during this period, the department receives overtime funds through a highway traffic safety grant.
