A portion of Buffalo’s Washington Park has been designated as a “Historical Dog Park” for the upcoming celebration for the 250th birthday of the United States.
Mayor Shane Schrader detailed the portion of the park that will be dedicated for the project.
Johnson County Commissioners’ Assistant Kristan Kenyon, representing the local Semi-quincentennial Committee, explained the project envisioned by the group.
According to Kenyon, the committee is also planning a memorial to be placed where Nate Champion died, consisting of a bronze, a monument and signage.
The council voted to approve the committee using the portion of Washington Park for the dog park, and to approve them applying for the grant for the project, with Councilman Mike Madden voting against.
The use of the land for the dog park is contingent upon the committee being awarded the grant.
