News – Sheridan Media
Wyoming Highway Patrol Captain Erik Jorgensen made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on road conditions in the Bighorn Mountains.
The Captain told listeners the paved roads are clear, although he does ask the public to leave for their destination with time to spare as campers and large trucks begin to utilize the roads and will be slower as they make their way up steeper grades.

As more and more residents make their way up the mountains to enjoy the areas during weekends, Jorgensen asks the public to ensure the dirt and side roads are clear and dry before attempting travel. Both the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office and the Bighorn National Forest have made these requests to prevent resource and road damage. Captain Jorgensen reiterated the request but also gave a warning that the persistence to travel on roads that are not yet ready for vehicles has already led to lives being needlessly put in danger.

The Captain said he hopes everyone can enjoy the region and take in the sights and sounds of the Bighorn Mountains but asks the public to be safe and use caution when using the side roads before the summer heat hits the area.
