SAGE Executive Director Jill Benson, Sheridan artist Joel Ostlind and Buffalo based artist Lisa Norman made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the art installation to be installed and unveiled on the Woolworth Building.

Conceptualized by Ostlind, the art installation painted in collaboration by Norman is 10 ft. by 66 ft. and will be installed on the Woolworth Building. A committee formed by Paul Del Rossi, oversaw the process and Security State Bank funded the project.

Ostlind said he explored many different ideas and spent a lot of time sketching in a process he believed would transfer the concept from paper to a large work.

It was his attendance at an unrelated event that led to the collaboration between the two artists. Ostlind is not a muralist, an artist who specializes in creating large-scale artworks directly onto walls or other permanent surfaces, but he knew eventually one would have to be found. Norman, a muralist, began to ask questions regarding his work on the project during the serendipitous meeting. Ostlind asked if she would like to be the artist to interpret his work and create the piece. She agreed.

Being Norman’s first collaboration of this nature, new challenges became apparent and the two Wyoming artists worked to find techniques to overcome these hurdles.

Norman gave an example of one such challenge.

The painting is finished. Norman spent 153 hours of work to transfer Ostlind’s concept onto a portable surface. The work will be mounted and unveiled at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, with the artists, the committee, Del Rossi and representatives from Security State Bank present.
