Wyoming Highway Patrol Captain Erik Jorgensen Public Pulse and spoke on motorcycle safety.
The Highway Patrol Captain asked the motoring public to take a moment and look one more time before merging, accelerating or turning to ensure a motorcycle isn’t alongside the vehicle.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2023, 6,335 motorcyclists were killed in traffic crashes, representing 15% of all traffic fatalities and an increase of 1.3% compared to 2022. The number of motorcyclists injured in traffic crashes declined slightly in 2023, with an estimated 82,564 injured, a 0.2% decrease.
A good rule of thumb recommends a two second following distance or more to allow drivers time to react should a motorcycle operator have an incident. In inclement weather a three to four second follow time may be required.
Jorgensen also asked motorcyclists to be safe and aware of their position in the lane while enjoying the long curing highways.

While traveling in Wyoming, riders older than 18 years of age are not required to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, but the WHP Captain does heavily recommend the practice for safety.
