Some Sheridan County Junior High School students are trying to program their activities for this week, by learning the language of computer programming.

This week Sheridan College has been hosting a Computer Programming Camp for 6th and 7th graders.

Mark Thoney is a computer science instructor at the College.

He says Sheridan County schools tend to introduce students to the basics of computer science at the elementary level.

When they get to junior high, they start learning about programming, which is what this week’s camp was aimed at.

“We’re not testing, we’re not lecturing, but we are introducing the concepts, and it’s an enjoyable fun experience, so some of the students focus on the artwork that maybe we’re putting into our games, some maybe really interested in the story telling side of it, some are interested in the programming side of it. We really do try to show how tech applies to all kinds of different fields and how you can introduce it.”

Tony says on Thursday (June 19th) students will be having a battle bot sumo style free for all competition.
