News – Sheridan Media

Wyoming Highway Patrol Capt. Erik Jorgensen and Lt. Louis Tegedesch appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to remind the public to stay alert as traffic increases during Rodeo Week.

Capt. Jorgensen noted that traffic has been steadily rising throughout the summer—but it increases substantially during WYO Rodeo Week.

One of the leading causes of crashes and fender benders during this time, he said, is distracted driving—with distractions coming from both outside and inside the vehicle.

To help prevent distracted driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends putting your phone away, avoiding multitasking, and staying focused on the road. This includes silencing notifications, activating “Do Not Disturb” mode, or placing your phone out of reach. Drivers should also avoid eating, drinking, or engaging in other non-driving activities while behind the wheel.
