Undersheriff gives friendly reminder of partial fire restrictions

Sheridan County Undersheriff Lieutenant Doug Sanders appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse this week, reminding the public to follow the county’s partial fire restrictions enacted on July 8.

Still recovering from a season of wildfires last summer, the Sheridan County Commission has emphasized the importance of vigilance as high fire danger continues.

Other safety tips include keeping fire tools, water, or a fire extinguisher on hand, fully extinguishing all fires before leaving the area, and avoiding risky activities such as parking on dry grass or driving with dragging trailer chains.

According to the Wyoming State Forestry Division, total suppression costs for the Elk Fire—one of 24 Emergency Fire Suppression Account (EFSA) approved incidents in 2024—were approximately $55 million. Of that, about $20 million was covered by state and local entities, with the remainder paid by federal agencies.
