There will be an Open House on Wednesday, August 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the new Natural History Museum of Wyoming here in Sheridan. The museum, located in the Mohns Center at Sheridan College, showcases many dinosaur bones, as many other exhibits. There is also a lapidary lap, and a prep lab for cleaning and preparing the bones for display.

In an earlier interview, Dave Nicolarsen, curator, added,

Tom Hebert

Tom Hebert, who was named museum director in April, said that he hopes the museum will plant a seed to encourage kids to get interested in pursuing earth sciences careers.

Many of the dinosaur bones were found in the Sheridan/Buffalo area, many from the quarry south of Buffalo, where the Allosaurus, Caesar who stands in The Edward A. Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College, was one found.

Some of the bones on display are the actual bones, but some, like the full-sized skeletons, are casts, mostly because of the weight, Hebert said. But most of the bones in the display cases are the actual fossilized bones.

The Open House is free, there will be refreshments, and everyone is invited. Donations are appreciated.
