Willett Creek Project

August 6, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

A number of roads in the Bighorn National Forest are temporarily closed for the Willet Creek project. To complete a road reroute, road maintenance, and a culvert installation project, the Forest Service announced that Woodchuck Forest System Road 226 is closed from the junction with Antelope Basin Road  to the junction with West Bruce Mountain Road. Antelope Basin is closed from the junction with Woodchuck north to the junction with Forest System Road 314417. Antelope Salt House Forest System Road 279 is closed in its entirety.

The road closure is effective immediately and will be in place until the completion of the project to allow the contractor space to mobilize equipment and supplies as well as to complete work. For your safety and that of the construction workers, please respect the closure. The project was initiated in 2024 and is being done to improve access as well as to restore aquatic habitat in Willett Creek. Forest Service officials encourage people to use alternative routes if you need to be in the area during the closure.
