Johnson County’s Commissioners considered authorizing an application for the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) grant for their 2026 dust mitigation project.
County Road and Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer brought the request before the commission this week.
The total for the county’s grant application is $418,516 but will require a 20% local match of $83,703 leaving a federal portion of $334,812.
Pehringer said Johnson County, along with about five other counties, has participated in the program for 18 or 19 years, but there are more counties participating today, meaning less funding for each county.
The commission approved the Resolution allowing Pehringer to submit the application for CMAQ funding.
