The Buffalo City Council was given an update on the Lodging Tax and revenues during the last 12 months by the Johnson County Tourism Association (JCTA).

Toby Carrig, Marketing Director for the JCTA, said lodging tax revenue has increased by nearly 12% this year over 2024, and gave more details.

Johnson County voters approved the lodging tax increase last November, but the increase did not take effect until April of 2025.

Carrig said preliminary data for lodging tax revenues collected by the state for this summer is concerning, showing a decline of nearly 4% in April, and roughly the same level in May of 2025 to May of last year.

The numbers for June will be released in the coming days, which he said is a good indicator of where the summer tax collections may be.
