There was food, fun, music and excitement at the first One Claw House Party at A/C School on Thursday, August 14.

The house party was also a back-to-school celebration for the school and the entire community.

DJ Mike Guyer provided the music, and Superintendent Chase Christensen became chef for the event, frying the hamburgers.

The House System at A/C School is designed to build unity, inspire character, and foster healthy competition. It connects students across grade levels and backgrounds into six distinct houses, and the six houses make up One Claw, the entire school. In 2025, they added two new elementary houses. Each Elementary House is affiliated with three of the upper grade houses, whose members serve as mentors for the younger students. Rooted in traditions both ancient and modern, the House system provides a sense of belonging and pride while encouraging leadership, teamwork, and service.

At the House party, the elementary students were sorted into the two new houses, House Koa and House Meraki. House Koa became a part of the Beowulf, Herculean, Fiducia houses, and House Meraki was a part of Indomitus, Tapferkeit, Iaspis.

The teachers in the elementary, or “Cub” houses, talked about their houses. In the Koa house, which had a Hawaiian theme, with grass shirts and leis, the supervisors are teachers Alicia Auzqui, Mandi Buchanan, and Samantha Grubb. They explained about their house.

The other cub house is house Meraki. Teachers Amanda Andreen, Misty McTaggert, and Isolina Nimick said they were excited about the cub house system.
