The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Cody Region has named Adam Stephens as the new terrestrial habitat biologist for the Big Horn Basin. Stephens fills the role following the retirement of Jerry Altermatt, who served 33 years with the department.

Stephens will lead habitat enhancement projects benefiting wildlife across the Big Horn Basin. His responsibilities include assessing needs, planning projects, securing funding, managing on-the-ground initiatives, and continuing restoration work through beaver translocation to improve wetland habitats.

According to a release, Stephens began his professional career as a rangeland management specialist with the Bureau of Land Management, working in Nevada and Utah before moving to Cody. For the past nine years, he has worked in the Big Horn Basin, building partnerships with a variety of stakeholders.

“I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of Wyoming’s wildlife habitat and be a part of the Game and Fish team,” Stephens said. “Having lived and worked in the Big Horn Basin for nearly a decade, I look forward to continuing partnerships that benefit riparian and upland vegetation and the wildlife that depend on it.”
