The Oxford Dictionary defines art as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” Since its inception in 2001, the Sheridan Public Arts Committee has helped acquire more than 70 permanent sculptures for the community and hosts new on-loan pieces every year. One of the newer on-loan sculptures sits at the corner of Dow and Main Street in downtown Sheridan. During a recent interview on Public Pulse, Sheridan City Councilman Steve Brantz commented on the sculpture that is made of vehicle bumpers and fenders.
Brantz said that some of his constituents have raised concerns about some of the artwork that’s on display throughout town.

Artwork that is in Sheridan temporarily is here for a year as part of a rotating on-loan sculpture program. If a sculpture is purchased, it’s purchased through private donations made to the Sheridan Public Arts Committee. Public Funds are not used to purchase the sculptures.
