The University of Wyoming is reporting the university has received accreditation for a new graduate program in nutrition and dietetics, which will begin in spring 2026.

Housed in UW’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, the program will prepare students to become registered dietitian nutritionists, a credential that now requires a graduate degree. Students will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and supervised experiential learning hours in five years, allowing them to take the registration exam on an accelerated timeline.

“Our Wyoming communities need these practicing nutrition professionals to help prevent and address health outcomes,” Head of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Jill Keith said.

Program Director Jeff Gilis said students will train to work across the U.S. but will also gain experience addressing challenges unique to Wyoming and rural areas. Graduates will be qualified to work in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, food service operations and private practice.

The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and will admit students each spring in a cohort model.
