A 33-year-old Wyola woman was recently sentenced in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for crimes she committed in Sheridan County this past spring. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On April 5, 2025, Wahelah Castro led law enforcement on a high-speed chase on I-90 that reached speeds in excess of 125 mph. At one point during the pursuit, Castro crossed the median and was traveling the wrong way, against traffic on the Interstate. Castro was not over the legal limit when she was arrested, but admitted to drinking prior to the high-speed chase.
At a recent sentencing hearing, District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached between the defendant and the State and sentenced Castro to 2 ½ to 4 years in prison for a felony eluding charge, suspended in favor of an eight month split-sentence followed by three years of supervised probation, and time served for a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.
Judge Phillips ordered Castro to pay $475 in court costs and assessments; $750 in public defender fees and $10,884 in restitution for the damage caused to law enforcement vehicles prior to her arrest.
