The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter now offers microchipping to help lost pets get home, adding the service alongside its vaccination clinics.

Shelter Operations Manager Hannah Edwards and Unleashed Foundation founder/operator Marian Eccles are informing residents about the new option.

The final vaccination clinic at the shelter is Friday, Sept. 26. During the appointment, which includes a basic medical exam, owners may opt to have a microchip implanted. Edwards said the chip is about the size of a grain of rice and is scannable if a pet is found. Afterward, owners complete online registration with their contact information.

The shelter notes staff are not responsible for registering the microchip; owners receive instructions to complete that step. Staff will scan pets first to check for an existing chip. If one is found and the information is outdated, Edwards said staff can provide contacts to help owners update records.

Vaccination clinics are by appointment only. Contact the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter for more information or to make an appointment.
