Wyoming Game and Fish Department Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt has announced an additional training opportunity for aquatic invasive species inspection certification due to overwhelming public interest.
Typically, training that certifies residents to become AIS inspectors takes place in the spring. But according to Schmidt, those classes quickly fill to capacity. In response the department will offer boat inspection training on Monday, Sept. 29, for residents interested in becoming certified to inspect watercraft for aquatic invasive species. The training will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a break for lunch close to noon held at the Game and Fish Sheridan Regional Office. The training will be led by Sheridan Regional Aquatic Invasive Species Specialist Reed Moore.

This training allows the option for watercraft owners who travel out of state frequently with their boat, such as Tongue River Reservoir, to inspect their own watercraft. The inspection being trained also meets Montana’s pre-launch requirement.
Although people will be instructed on how to inspect a watercraft, the requirement to stop at open check stations remains. In Wyoming, certified self-inspectors can show that they have already inspected their boat and get back on the road quickly. This quick stop meets compliance with the law.
This AIS inspection training is free, but registration is required. Call the Sheridan Regional Office to register or for more information at 307-672-7418.
