Free Landfill Day Sept. 27

September 13, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

Sheridan residents can dispose of up to one ton of household trash at no charge during Free Landfill Day, 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

Sheridan Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Harnish said this year’s event may involve longer waits because the roll-off site is closed for reclamation work, requiring all vehicles to use the main pit.

The City of Sheridan reminds residents:

Green waste is always free if under 24 inches in diameter (root balls still require a fee). Drop sites are available at 1261 Highland Avenue and 165 E. Brundage Lane.

Metal is also always free, but officials ask that it be brought on another day.

City residents may also use one of six landfill coupons year-round.

All loads must be secured or covered. Unsecured waste will be assessed surcharges: $11 for cars and pickups, $50 for larger vehicles and trailers.

Hazardous household waste will be accepted during the free day. Fees still apply for tires and items containing freon. Compost, wood chips, and the Landfill Mall will not be available. Commercial customers must pay regular fees.
