What used to be a mobile living space with sleeping quarters on the railroad, is now available off track in Ranchester.
For many years, travelers would see a 1972 train caboose in the Ranchester City Park, located on the west edge of the US Highway 14 railroad bridge and behind the town hall and library building.
Ranchester Rail Retreat is now a fully remodeled Airbnb and has been open for business since July.
Manager Amber Kukuchka says the town of Ranchester came up with the idea and did the remodel work.
She says the idea behind the Airbnb was to give travelers something different to stay overnight in.
“I think just being a rental property in our community is really huge, like a short term rental property for people passing through, because we do have a lot of community events, we have a lot of summertime activities. Even in the winter, people are coming and going skiing, so I think the image is just to be a really great place for people to stay, when they’re passing through or just visiting family.”
Kukuchka says she doesn’t have the exact number, but it’s been about 50-50 so far, in terms of local and non-local guests that have stayed overnight in the caboose.
