Tickets Still Available for Full Moon Fort

Tickets are still available for the Annual Full Moon Fort Tours at Fort Phil Kearny on Friday, October 3rd & Saturday, October 4th.

Site Superintendent Sharie Shada added that each year another aspect of the fort’s story is told. Visitors also get to experience the site at night, which is a completely different experience than visiting during the day. One can really put themselves into the shoes of those who lived this history and get a feel for what it may have been like here in the 1860s.

The full-moon tours will explore the more grisly details of fort life. Tour guides will lead groups through the fort by lantern-light and moonlight to experience an evening of true stories that are too eerie to be fiction.

The 7 p.m. tours are more ‘kid friendly’ and the stories are less graphic. Shada added that the event is outside and will take place, “rain or shine,” so attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly.

Cost is $10 per person; children 11 and under free, but they do need a reservation. Some time slots are already filled, but those interested can call the fort at 307-684-7629 or book through the website www.fortphilkearny.com. Tour sizes are limited and times fill up quickly.

Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site is located at 528 Wagon Box Road, in Banner, Wyoming, and is a division of Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources.

Full refund will be given in case of cancellation. Attendees are asked to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time and check in at the Fort Phil Kearny Interpretive Center. Tours last about an hour.
