On Friday, October 10, beginning at 5 p.m., The Brinton Museum Fall into Art program is honored to welcome Shannon Smith for a special evening lecture.
Her talk, Mari Sandoz – Groundbreaking Storyteller of the American West, explores the life and legacy of Mari Sandoz, Historian, educator, and award-winning author Shannon D. Smith will share the story of celebrated writer Mari Sandoz, whose groundbreaking works, including Old Jules, Crazy Horse: Strange Man of the Oglala’s, and Cheyenne Autumn, reshaped the literary narrative of the American West.
Smith’s lecture will highlight Sandoz’s enduring contributions to Western history and her advocacy for Native communities. Smith is a historian, educator, and award-winning author. She specializes in American Indian and Western history. She is the author of Give Me Eighty Men: Women and the Myth of the Fetterman Fight.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education and public humanities, Smith is deeply passionate about history and its power to connect communities. She currently works on cultural heritage projects that aim to raise awareness and build meaningful bridges between diverse groups.
There will be a cash bar beginning at 5 p.m, with the lecture at 5:30. The program is free, and open to the public. There will be an optional ticketed prix fixe dinner will follow the program — reservations required.
