News – Sheridan Media

According to Dementia Friendly of Wyoming, the use of The Hub on Smith’s programs has risen sharply in recent years. That growth reflects both the expanding Baby Boomer population and increased awareness of supportive services developed through the Dementia Friendly Wyoming project.

Planning for dementia-friendly services began several years before The Hub received a grant from the Administration for Community Living. With guidance from the Center for a Vital Community at Sheridan College, more than 100 residents collaborated to create an action plan that became the foundation of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) Initiative.

After receiving the grant, The Hub worked with Dementia Friendly America to complete interviews with representatives from 11 community sectors. Partnerships formed with organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association Wyoming, Wyoming AARP, Wyoming Department of Health Aging Division, Sheridan VA Medical System, Wyoming Institute for Disabilities, and Wyoming Center on Aging.

Over the years, The Hub has strengthened dementia care in Sheridan County by improving awareness, promoting early diagnosis, expanding access to services, and enhancing quality of care.

Director of Dementia Friendly Wyoming at The Hub Heather Comstock appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak about the initiative.

Comstock has dedicated her life and education to helping those experiencing brain change and dementia. She said initial conversations about dementia can be difficult for both individuals and families, but education and awareness are making a measurable difference for everyone involved.
