An 18-year-old man was arraigned on multiple felony charges Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
A Sheridan man that played a role in a rash of vehicle burglaries this summer in Sheridan will head to trial in the spring after pleading not guilty to eight charges Tuesday in District Court. Leland Cross is charged with two counts of felony burglary; two counts of felony conspiracy to commit burglary; one count of felony conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary; one count of felony theft; one count of felony conspiracy to commit theft and one count of misdemeanor drug possession. District Court Judge Darci Phillips, following the defendant’s not guilty pleas, scheduled a #2 stack four-day jury trial to begin March 9 and set a pretrial conference for February 5 at 9 am.
The case began on July 31 when the Sheridan Police Department received a report of vehicle burglaries where firearms were missing from their cases in the 1200 block of the Bowman Avenue area. Cross was arrested during a traffic stop for allegedly being in possession of one of the stolen firearms. All of the alleged crimes occurred between July 25 and August 1. The burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary charges along with the theft and conspiracy to commit theft charges are each punishable by up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000. Conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary is punishable by not less than five years and not more than 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. The misdemeanor marijuana possession charge is punishable by up to one-year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
