Manufacturing Month is being celebrated throughout October, with more than 10 manufacturers in Sheridan and Johnson counties opening their doors for public tours on various days.
During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Teresa Detimore said the Chamber has recognized National Manufacturing Day since 2017.
According to the Wyoming Economic Development Association, about 6% of Wyoming’s Gross State Product (GSP) comes from manufacturing. The GSP is a measure of the state’s total output of goods and services. That percentage places Wyoming’s manufacturing economy on par with South Dakota and ahead of neighboring states, Colorado and Montana.
The WEDA notes that economic diversification is key to maintaining a stable state economy. A 6% share of Wyoming’s GSP represents a strong manufacturing base without allowing any single sector to dominate.
Last year, the Chamber decided to expand the celebration from a single day to a full month, giving residents, students and schools more opportunities to visit local manufacturers.
