SARC Reminds Victims They Are Not Alone During Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October 11, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness, uplifting the voices of survivors and uniting communities to end relationship violence.

Introduced by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in 1981, the campaign was officially recognized by Congress in 1989 and continues to shine a light on the strength and resilience of survivors.

As the community takes time to stand with victims, Sheridan Advocacy and Resource Center Assistant Director Rhonda Weber and her team want residents to know that they are always there, and they believe.

For many victims, the difficult task of escaping an abuser is only the beginning. Some face pressure from family or friends to return, while others are unfairly blamed for the abuse they have endured. The team at the Advocacy and Resource Center has seen many such cases and is trained to stand beside victims through what can be the most challenging time of their lives.

That support can last hours, days or even years. Weber said the center’s commitment never wavers and advocates remain by each victim’s side every step of the way.

Advocates are trained to assist according to the victim’s discretion, whatever that may look like.
