Game and Fish Launches Annual Hunter Harvest Survey

October 17, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking hunters to share how their season went. Beginning Oct. 16, roughly 70,000 antelope, deer, and elk hunters will receive the agency’s annual harvest survey, with more surveys to follow as licenses are sold.

According to Game and Fish, the department uses the responses to track harvest numbers and gauge hunter satisfaction, information that helps set future quotas, season dates, and other management decisions. A department biologist said the survey is one of the most valuable tools for monitoring wildlife populations and relies heavily on accurate hunter feedback.

Most surveys and reminders will arrive by email, and due to the large number of license holders, only a random sample of hunters for those three species will receive a questionnaire. Hunters of species with fewer licenses, such as moose or turkey, can expect one directly.

Officials remind participants to wait until their hunt or season ends before submitting answers. Online responses are preferred, though phone submissions are accepted. Hunters who complete their survey by Jan. 31, will be entered in a drawing for gift cards and prizes from outdoor sponsors.

The survey is conducted by the Wyoming Survey & Analysis Center at the University of Wyoming, and all responses remain confidential.
