Sheridan County Lifts Partial Fire Restrictions

October 22, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

At their regular meeting Tuesday, the Sheridan County Commission voted to lift the Partial Fire Restrictions they imposed on July 7, allowing careful open burning.

County Fire Warden Chris Thomas made the request of the commission.

In a release, the county said they strongly advise caution, as weather conditions can change rapidly. Grass and other light fuels can quickly become a fire hazard when temperatures rise, or winds pick up increasing the risk of uncontrolled fires.

The county asks that if you plan to burn, to (A) Notify the Dispatch Center at (307) 672-2413 to prevent unnecessary fire department response. (B) Check the weather forecast for any warnings; avoid burning if high winds or dry conditions are expected.

While burning, have fire tools, water, and a phone readily available.

Don’t delay in calling for help if your burn becomes unmanageable; early intervention can limit fire spread and damage.

Never leave a fire unattended, and make sure it’s out cold before leaving it unattended.

Being cautious with these steps can help protect both property and the community.
