Wyoming Game and Fish Officials are reminding the public to refer to the agency website, regulations, and official resources when researching information for Game and Fish.

The Department is reporting a number of inaccurate AI-generated search results have been brought to the agency’s attention.

According to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, many of the inaccuracies come from AI tools referencing failed legislative bills listed on the Wyoming Legislature’s website. Those outdated bills are being cited as current law, resulting in misleading information being spread to the public. In some instances, the details provided by these AI search results directly contradict existing laws and regulations.

“Individuals who rely on inaccurate AI-generated interpretations of Wyoming wildlife laws could face hunting or fishing violations,” Game and Fish Law Enforcement Supervisor Aaron Kerr said. “Hunters and anglers are accountable for following published rules and regulations. Failure to follow these carries the potential for fines, jail time, or suspension of hunting and fishing privileges.”

Search engines, such as Google, that generate AI responses to queries do include a disclaimer stating the information may not be accurate. Game and Fish state it is the responsibility of the individual to verify these responses through official information sources.

The most up-to-date source for information can be found on the Game and Fish regulation page, as well as proposed changes to regulations and information on how to provide public comment. Digital copies of all maps and brochures are available for download and physical copies are available at all local Game and Fish offices.

Officials report these inaccuracies go beyond regulations. Game and Fish regularly posts updates regarding opening and closing dates, access to public lands, events and safety messaging.

Resources, including registration for news alerts and newsletters, as well as information on your local Game and Fish office locations, can be found on the Game and Fish website.
