AAA projects that more than 119 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home during the 2025 year-end holidays.
Many travelers enjoy sharing their adventures by posting photos or “checking in” once they reach their destination. Undersheriff Sanders recommends waiting to share those memories until the trip is over.

If you plan to be away this holiday season, ask a neighbor or hire someone to shovel your driveway and walkway to give the impression that someone is home. Devices such as motion-activated lights or timers can also create the appearance of occupancy by turning on lights at set times. It may also be wise to place a hold on mail and deliveries and ask a trusted neighbor to watch over your property.
Research shows burglaries rise during the holiday season. The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to follow these steps to help ensure everything is still there when they return home.
