The Brinton’s Haunted Ranch Halloween Event

On Saturday, October 25, The Brinton Museum in Big Horn held its 11th annual family-friendly Halloween event. This year, they expanded the fun, opening up more of the ranch for people to explore. They changed the name from ‘Things That Go Bump in The Night’ to ‘The Brinton Museum’s Haunted Ranch.’

Anna Sensel, Visitor Services Associate, explained about this year’s event.

There was the annual Scavenger Hunt of Terror, where youngsters could embark on a frightful scavenger hunt around the ranch and discover the Quarter Circle A Ranch come to life. They could follow cryptic clues, dodge spooky surprises, and find hidden treasures as you race against time.

There were undead cowboys in the bunkhouse, with many cobwebs in the trees and ghosts swaying from the branches.

The Leather Shop of Jim Jackson has become a masterpiece of Halloween horror!

Jackson is well known in the area for his leather working he builts belts, wallets, purses, briefcases, photo albums and lots of riding equipment.

Curator of Education and Engagement Will Lopez on why they decided to expand on the Halloween event, and added that there was another new and scary feature this year.

Kendra Heimbuck talked about some of the history of the Brinton Ranch. The ranch is certainly old enough to be haunted.

This year’s Haunted Ranch is presented in partnership with Science Kids, who will be on-site in the Brinton Greenhouse with live “Creepy Crawlies” and other hands-on activities for curious minds.

On of the creepy crawlies that was on display from the Science Kids was a Texas Millipede, which handled by Ashley Southall. She said that they can grow to nine inches long, and can grow up to 750 legs.

The Brinton Museum extends its gratitude to First Interstate Bank, the official sponsor of this year’s event, for their generous support in making this community tradition possible.

The weather was warm and sunny, and there was a good crowd who came out to enjoy the scares and spooks at the ranch. There were many costumes, ranging from Gandalf the Grey and an English gentleman; to dinosaurs, storm troopers and spacemen.
