Wyoming DFS Working On Making Food Available To SNAP Recipients

November 5, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has directed the Department of Family Services (DFS) to create the Hunger Relief Program to provide financial support to charitable organizations and churches with food banks, pantries, and mobile food pantries that are accessible to any SNAP recipient.

DFS is currently reaching out to organizations in order to provide funding for healthy food for residents in need across the state.

Award amounts are based on the SNAP benefits that were issued in a community in September 2025, and the approximate average weekly number of individuals served by the organization.

SNAP, once known as food stamps, provides monthly benefits that help low-income households buy the food they need for good health.

In September 2025, 26,393 individuals in 12,726 households in Wyoming received SNAP benefits. The total amount of benefits received for groceries and food in Wyoming during that time was $4,854,534.

SNAP benefits are paid to households through federal funding.

November benefits, which were expected to be sent out Nov. 1-4, were held due to the federal government shutdown.

While November benefits are not available at this time, they may be made available later in the month, or in upcoming months, depending on action at the federal level.

The Hunger Relief Program hopes to release emergency food assistance funding in Wyoming communities as soon as this weekend.

The program will end after SNAP funding is restored.

Those in need of food assistance should contact their local DFS office or to call 2-1-1 for local resource information.

Updates will be shared through official social media and the DFS website (Click here).
