Sheridan’s Streetcar Ol’ #115 Gets a New Home

November 8, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

A piece of Sheridan’s history made its final trip down Main Street on Thursday, November 6. Streetcar Ol’ #115, which is the only one known to still exist in Sheridan, left its former home on Higby Road. Since the streetcar line was ended in 1926, this year marks 100 years since the streetcars ran the streets of Sheridan.

On Thursday, Ol’ #115 was placed on a flatbed trailer, and then traveled along some of the original streetcar route down Main Street to its new, permanent home at the Sheridan Community Land Trust, (SCLT) Big Goose Natural Area west of Sheridan.

Kevin Knapp, SCLT History Program Manager has been working on preserving the streetcar since he moved into his role.

He added that the restoration would take some time.

According to Sheridan County Land Trust “Streetcars like the Ol’ #115 were more than just transportation. In their day, miners, families, and schoolchildren relied on the streetcars as a lifeline. Today, it stands as a fragile but powerful link to the past.”

Streetcar #115 was a part of the Sheridan-Fort Mackenzie line. This line was abandoned in 1924, when it was replaced by buses. A second line ran between Sheridan and the mines of Monarch and Acme for another two years.

In order to protect the car from any more weather damage, Knapp said that in January and February of 2026, SCLT and Cleary Buildings will put up a hay shed type shelter for the car. Knapp said it would have a metal roof, and there will be a wall on the west side of the car to help protect it from snow. Interested community members can still see the car, but it will be protected from the worst of the weather.

Fund raising is currently on-going to help SCLT refurbish #115. Donations are always appreciated, and they have a link where you can go to donate, https://sheridanclt.org/save-wyomings-last-streetcar/

A story about the history of the streetcar line in Sheridan will be posted tomorrow, November 8, on Sheridanmedia.com
