Sheridan College Offering Science Lecture on Ants in the African Savannas

Sheridan College will offer a presentation by Dr. Corinna Riginos, Wyoming Director of Science for the Nature Conservancy, titled “Game of Thorns: A Tale of Marauding Ants, Elephants, Lions, Deception and Devastation in an African Acacia Savanna.”

The presentation will be Wednesday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in Room 153 of the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College.

Dr. Riginos will discuss the interconnected story of ants, trees, elephants, and lions in the Kenyan Savanna.

She brings more than a decade of field research in Kenya to this topic.

Scott Newbold, Associate Professor of Biology at Sheridan College, said, “Dr. Riginos’s work highlights how even the smallest species can influence the fate of entire ecosystems.”

This event is part of the Sheridan College Science Lecture Series, bringing leading scientists and researchers to campus to share their work with the public.
