JCSD1 Board Votes to Possibly Reduce Number of Members

The Johnson County School Board voted this week to move forward with possibly reducing the number of board members in the future.

Discussions have been happening over the last couple of years, with members wanting to bring the number of trustees down to seven from its current number of nine.

Superintendent Charles Auzqui explained that he was asking for direction from the board in how to proceed.

The board discussed the reasons for considering the change, citing problems finding people willing to volunteer to serve, thinking it may be easier to find those willing if there were fewer positions to fill, as well as hoping those serving would be more apt to attend meetings on a regular basis.

Superintendent Auzqui will begin the process of shrinking the board, with more discussions scheduled for next month’s work session.
