Sheridan Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mike McCafferty made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the hospital’s developing affiliation with Billings Clinic.
Partnership between the two hospitals is nothing new. According to McCafferty the hospitals have been cooperating to provide care services to residents for decades.
McCafferty said the affiliation is not a merger nor an acquisition.

In a time when many rural hospitals are closing due to severe financial stress, driven by low patient volumes, high operating costs, and reimbursement challenges from private insurers and Medicaid, an affiliation may ease many costs for SMH.
McCafferty said the goal of the affiliation for both organizations is to improve operational performance, create efficiencies, reduce overhead costs and strengthen strategic position while expanding access to specialty care for patients. The affiliation can also offer training and professional development opportunities for both organizations.

McCafferty has hosted community forums to ensure residents have an understanding of the affiliation process and plans for more to take place. The next forum will begin at noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Sheridan County YMCA.
