On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 130, which repeals the Biden-era Buffalo Field Office Resource Management Plan Amendment that prohibited future coal leasing in the Powder River Basin. Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-WY) introduced this joint resolution alongside Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and John Barrasso (R-WY). Lummis and Barrasso sponsored a companion bill in the Senate Wednesday. Barrasso, Senate Majority Whip, spoke on the Senate floor Wednesday, highlighting the Wyoming delegation’s efforts to repeal the Biden administration’s Buffalo Resource Management Plan Amendment.
Governor Mark Gordon, in a media release, offered his thanks to Wyoming’s congressional delegation for their efforts to protect the mining industry and rescind the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Buffalo Resource Management Plan Amendment. The Governor closed by saying that when signed by the President, this action ensures that no future federal administration can authorize the large-scale termination of coal leasing in the area.
