‘Tis the season for WYDOT to start closing some highways that will not see much traffic this winter.
WYDOT says the annual fall closure of US Highway 14A will occur at noon, on Monday, December 1st, between Burgess Junction and Lovell.
Depending on the weather, it may close sooner than scheduled.
Too much snow combined with too little traffic in the winter, makes snow-plowing efforts in the area impractical, hence the road is closed.
The east edge of the 22-mile closure is about 1/2 mile west of Burgess Junction at mile post 98.1, near Bear Lodge Resort, while the other edge of the closure is at milepost 76.04, which is about 2 miles west of the turnoff to Medicine Wheel.
The highway normally does not reopen to motor vehicle traffic until around Memorial Day.
US Highway 14 over the Granite Pass will remain open, however motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling.
