Winter Driving Conditions Arrive in Northern Wyoming

December 4, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

The Department of Transportation reports that each year 24% of weather-related vehicle crashes occur on snowy, slushy, or icy pavement and 15% happen during snowfall or sleet. Nearly 900 people are killed and about 76,000 are injured each year in crashes occurring in these weather conditions.

With winter finally arriving, driving conditions throughout Sheridan and Johnson Counties have become more hazardous.

For almost two decades, Captain Erik Jorgensen of the Wyoming Highway Patrol has worked in some of the most severe driving conditions in the Cowboy State. While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, the WHP Captain said preparing your vehicle for the winter season can save you from getting into an accident.  Allowing yourself enough time to reach your destination is another primary step to preventing accidents in winter weather.

Jorgensen said also knowing your personal limits is important. Not everyone knows how to drive in during intense snow storms with extreme conditions.
