CTG Auditions for “Steel Magnolias”

News – Sheridan Media

Sheridan’s Civic Theater Guild has announced they will continue their 2025 to 2026 season with “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling.

Auditions will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 16 and 17, on the second floor of the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center above the Brundage Street exit.

In a news release, Director Jennifer Smith said she is excited to bring the production to the Sheridan stage. Smith has appeared in an earlier production of the play and said she looks forward to exploring the relationships that shape the story. Many residents may remember her performance as Annie Wilkes in the 2025 WYO and CTG coproduction of “Misery,” and others may recall the Oscar nominated 1989 film version that featured Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts and Shirley MacLaine.

According to the CTG, unlike the film, the theatrical version focuses solely on the women and does not include the male characters. The production calls for six women ages 25 and older. Those who audition will not need to prepare any material. Instead, Smith will provide cuttings from the play for attendees to read. Participants do not need to attend both nights, but CTG Board President Aaron Odom said being present for as much of the process as possible helps the director build the strongest cast.

The CTG reports that rehearsals will begin soon after the cast is selected and will be held on weekday evenings with possible weekend sessions if needed. Performances are scheduled for March 6 to 8, 13 to 15 and 20 to 22, 2026.
