On Wednesday, December 10, the SCSD#3 Board of Trustees heard a presentation from students Wyatt Holland, Bronc Vineyard, Ileigh Patterson, Brindle Vineyard and Natalie Stoll, all house leaders, about some of the values the houses embrace.

Preceding the presentation, several community members spoke out against the house system at the school. Some of their comments were addressed in an earlier story.

Music teacher Kirsten Johnson said that these students are elected by their peers to be the house leaders. “It is a high honor,” she added.

Natalie Stoll, leader of Herculean House, “The House of Resilience” was the first speaker. She talked about building a school community.

Wyatt Holland, house leader of Tapferkeit—“The House of Independence” talked about one of the main roles of his house.

Jennifer Betz, 7-12 Social Studies, Athletic Director & Assistant Principal said, “these kids are
phenomenal leaders in our school.”

“This is one of the greatest benefits of the house system we are giving them the opportunity for this leadership, and I could not be prouder of this group of young men and women.”

In other business the board elected officers for the upcoming year, and the same officers were re-elected for the new year.

The board voted to approve the hiring of a head volleyball coach and a 7-12 social studies teacher. For more information on these positions, contact SCSD#3.

Superintendent Chase Christensen talked about the school rentals, and that they are raising the rent on the properties. He said it had to fit with IRS policy.

The board discussed overdue lunch balances, and they tabled the discussion for another meeting.

The first community lunch of the new year will be held on Wednesday, January 7 at 11:30 a.m. Those wishing to attend should contact the school at (307) 758-4412 before 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 17, so enough food can be ordered. The lunch is $5, payable in advance.
