The Wyoming Legislature will be dealing with school recalibration during their 2026 session, and school districts around the state are bracing for what may be ahead for the funding model.
Johnson County School District One Superintendent Charles Auzqui discussed the subject with the school board.
According to betterwyo.org, recalibration is the process the Wyoming Legislature uses to determine how much money school districts need to provide students with a quality and equitable education. Lawmakers examine what it currently costs to deliver a modern education-teachers, books, computers, etc.-and then “recalibrate” the formula that the state uses to allocate funding to school districts.
In addition to recalibration, Auzqui said there are a number of other issues the district should be keeping an eye on during the session, which include a literacy bill, unfunded mandates, and others that will affect school districts across the state.
The 2026 Wyoming Legislature will convene in February in Cheyenne.
