On Sunday, December 21, the anniversary of the Fetterman Fight in 1866, historian Sonny Reisch will present a talk about the fight at 12:30 p.m. at Kearney Community Hall. Following his talk Lakota historian Donovin Sprague will speak on the battle from the Native American perspective at the Fetterman Battlefield site.
“In addition to the annual Fetterman Fight Anniversary program hosted by the Fort Phil Kearny Bozeman Trail Association, we are also hosting a youth horse ride! Riders from the Pine Ridge, Northern Cheyenne, and Wind River Reservations are coming by horseback from Sheridan to the Fetterman Battlefield on December 21. ” Site Superintendent Sharie Shada said.
The public is invited to wave at them that morning as they ride through downtown Sheridan, and then greet them as they arrive at the battlefield later that afternoon. They are wrapping up the day with a community potluck meal at Kearney Community Hall, so bring your appetite and a side dish to share!

If you have any questions, please call Fort Superintendent Sharie Shada at 307-275-6120 or email her at sharie.shada@wyo.gov. We also have some sponsorship opportunities available, if anyone would like to help in that way.
“We’d love to see you at this event!!” Shada said.
