There was Christmas music in the air on Tuesday, December 16 in Clearmont. The Arvada-Clearmont School’s music department held their annual Christmas music concert and community supper.
Music teacher Kirsten Johnson and several students welcomed the crowd to the event.
The first half of the program featured the Clearmont Elementary students singing several Christmas songs as well as some dances along with the music.

One was a bucket drum ensemble that added percussion to March of the Toy Soldiers from the Nutcracker ballet by Tchiakovsky.

The youngsters also added colorful scarves to Tchiakovsky’s Trepak, also from the Nutcracker ballet.
The elementary school choir also sang a comical song, Gnomes to the Rescue, where Gnomes helped the Santa’s elves during a busy Christmas season.
They ended their part of the program with a song titled ‘Holiday Lights’, the gym lights were turned off and the youngsters had colored flashlights to represent Christmas lights.

Santa and Mrs. Clause arrived after the elementary part of the program, to hear Christmas wishes and pass out goody bags filled by the Clearmont Women’s Club.

There was a community dinner between the two segements of the program, and the 7-12 band and choir performed several songs after the supper.
Johnson said the high school band members were given a very fun project titled, “You’re the Music Director.” The students had to select, research and perform a song for the concert, some did their own musical arrangements for some of the songs.

“They did everything necessary to get a song of their choosing ready for the program,” Johnson said.
The band performed several Christmas songs old and new, including Jingle Bells, North Pole Sleigh Ride, Hanukkah Song, and Carol of the Bells.

Jacob Carvalho arranged Joy to the World to be played on piano, trumpet and Xylophone.
Carvalho also introduced the song, Parade of the Tin Soldiers
The event and supper were free, and Johnson said she would like to thank the many people who helped with the concert, as well as those who attended. “Thank you all for being here and celebrating the students’ accomplishments,” Johnson said.
