Johnson County Commission Chair Bill Novotny said people are already launching from the temporary boat ramp at the North Access area of Lake DeSmet.

Lake DeSmet Operations Manager Paul Mavrakis recently gave a year-end report to the Johnson County Commission, saying the access area is “looking great.”

Although there is still work to be done, Novotny said the access and many of the improvements planned in the near future are the result of a partnership with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, along with grant funding and the use of settlement funds.

Novotny said the project has been years in the making and includes a north shore access area, boat ramp and dock, and a vault toilet.

Improvements are expected to continue with the goal of expanding long-term recreational access at Lake DeSmet.
