A change of plea hearing was held this week in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for 50-year-old Jessie Venable. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

On August 26, 2025, Venable was arrested by the Sheridan Police Department for felony child abuse and misdemeanor domestic assault. Venable, at a recent hearing in District Court, pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded guilty to child abuse and domestic assault. The prosecution, per the plea agreement, is recommending 3 to 8 years in prison for the child abuse charge, and one-year in jail for the domestic assault charge and to run the jail sentence concurrent to the prison sentence. Venable can argue for a more lenient sentence at the sentencing hearing.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed by the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for March 24 at 9 am. Venable’s bond was revoked and she was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing.
