In 2023, the Wyoming Department of Transportation began studying sections of Coffeen Avenue and Brundage Lane within the Sheridan Urban Systems boundary inside city limits, with the goal of identifying improvements that would benefit local vehicle traffic, bicycles and pedestrians, as well as regional and tourist traffic traveling through Sheridan.
The purpose of the initial study was to identify safety and traffic concerns for vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and other roadway users.
Wyoming Department of Transportation District 4 Senior Public Information Specialist Laura Dalles said the public meetings and open houses held in 2023 and 2024 to gather input and share information were well attended.
After two years of research and planning, multiple proposals to improve the corridor were considered. While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Dalles said the proposal to install center medians along the corridor has been selected.

Construction is not scheduled until 2028. Dalles invited interested parties to attend a public meeting to discuss the proposed medians, answer questions and gather additional public input and concerns.

Coffeen Avenue is a primary route through Sheridan and the city’s main commercial corridor. It connects downtown Sheridan to communities south of town, including Big Horn, Banner and Story, via US Hwy 87.
Brundage Lane connects the Sheridan County Airport, WY Hwy 332, Sheridan Avenue, Coffeen Avenue and I-90, and provides access to communities east of Sheridan, including Ucross and Clearmont, via US Hwy 14.
