A Look Back in Time: April 9, 1917

The timely discovery of a spike driven between the ends of the rails on the main line of the Burlington track near Acme yesterday saved Engine 41 from being wrecked. The spike was discovered by a man who was walking along the track between Acme and Alger.

Flood conditions prevail in some of the Sheridan county streams as the result of the warm weather of the last two days. A bridge across Cat creek east of the city was carried away by the water, and Prairie Dog creek is a raging torrent.

Otto F. Ernest, “the Harness Man,” will hold a harness auction in connection with George Herron’s sale at Nelson’s Feed Yards on Smith street. The auction will be at 1 p.m. April 14 provided the weather and roads are favorable.
